Vietnam’s agriculture ministry to cut nearly 70% of business rules

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has proposed the abolishment and simplification of nearly 70% of 345 business conditions under its jurisdiction.

The announcement was made on April 18 at a workshop jointly held by the MARD and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The move comes as part of the Vietnamese Government’s efforts to make the business climate friendlier.

After a period of review, the MARD plans to streamline 241 requirements concerning animal health, animal feed, plant health inspection, genetically modified food, and various others, according to the head of the ministry’s legal department Nguyen Thi Kim Anh.

Ta Van Tuong, deputy head of Hanoi’s agriculture department, said it is necessary to introduce technical standards and safe production procedures to facilitate the compliance of enterprises, in addition to removing unnecessary rules.

He explained that such standards will encourage enterprises to be more responsible with their products while regulatory agencies could be relieved of administrative burdens to focus their resources on more practical issues.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of Transport announced the elimination of more than two thirds of 570 business requirements laid down by the ministry.

Last year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade discarded more than half of the 1,216 business conditions across 27 sectors in a move considered by many as historic and which has since led other ministries to follow suit.
