The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETTRADE) and the International Trade Centre, a joint entity between the World Trade Organization and the United Nations, have teamed up to launch a project aimed to further bolster trade for sustainable development in the country.

Addressing the launching workshop held in Hanoi on March 12, Vu Ba Phu, head of the VIETTRADE, noted that the consumption of green seal-certified products has grown into a noticeable trend across many countries, especially developed ones.
Vietnam has always attached importance to boosting green growth while seeking a proper approach on the path towards sustainable development.
Despite this desire, a lack of capital remains one of the biggest challenges that firms face in their pursuit of a green path.
Once a route to green growth is found, enterprises become more attractive to financial sources and possibly expand their current network of customers, which in turn improves their overall business performance.
Phu said that the “trade for sustainable development (T4SD) in Vietnam” project is aimed at further enhancing competitiveness for local companies and facilitating them to become a more effective part of the global value chain.
The project, planned to be carried out between 2019 and 2020, is set to help enterprises grasp and stick to sustainable business strategies, he added.
It looks to provide enterprises with technical support and sustainable solutions advocated by the International Trade Centre, including sustainable standards, sustainable maps, and sustainable networks.
Additionally, the project inclines towards helping businesses better understand their own standing and from there take right steps towards meeting the green criteria.
Another purpose is to aid firms in increasing access for their products to the global market. Notably, the project would enable them to identify and access successfully financial resources as well as provide them with technical guidelines and pragmatic strategies.
