Programme highlights sentiments between Uncle Ho and Central Highlanders

A cultural programme entitled ‘Uncle Ho and the Central Highlanders’ is taking place at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, in the Dong Mo tourism area of Son Tay town in Hanoi, throughout this May.

The event is among the activities to celebrate the 128th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh while introducing visitors to the cultural practices of the Central Highlanders.

The programme has attracted the participation of 80 ethnic people from 11 groups including the Tay, Dao, H’Mong, Kho Mu, Ta Oi, Co Tu and Raglai, as well as students from the Hanoi University of Culture, and members of the Vietnam Association of Crafts Villages.

The event includes a display of photos, documents, objects, and articles on Uncle Ho and his sentiments towards ethnic groups in the Central Highlands region. There are also stories shared by those who were lucky enough to meet and talk with Uncle Ho.

An art show will be held on May 19 and 15, introducing songs and dances praising President Ho.

Traditional festivals and ceremonies will be re-enacted at the programme, including a wedding of the Raglai people in Ninh Thuan province on May 20, and a house warming ceremony of the Cham people on May 27.

Visitors at the event will also have an opportunity to compete in folk games, taste Vietnamese dishes made from lotus seeds, enjoy gong performances, and try their hands at making the traditional cakes of the Central Highlanders.
